3.5 Remote Management Unit (RMU)

3.4.2 Mailslot
Mailslots are used to import/export individual cartridges without interrupting library operation. The command
to open the mailslot may be denied if the robotics is busy with some operation. In that case "Busy" is
displayed and the command has to be repeated once the robotics operation is finished.
3.5 Remote Management Unit (RMU)
3.5.1 Overview
Many of the same operations performed from the operator control panel can also be performed remotely
using the Remote Management Unit.
The RMU lets you monitor and control your library from any terminal connected to your network or through
the World Wide Web (WWW). The RMU hosts a dedicated, protected Internet site that displays a graphical
representation of your library.
After establishing a connection to the library, open any HTML browser and enter the IP address of the library.
To configure the RMU, you must first set the IP address at OCP or DHCP.
In the following sections mostly the screenshots of LT40 S2 are shown. The screenshots of LT60 S2 differ only
marginally.
3.5.2 Library Status Icons
Status icons indicate the following conditions.

CAUTION
• Do not lift the tape cartridge upward before it has been completely ejected
from the mailslot. The mailslot may fail by doing so.
• When returning the mailslot to the tape library, make sure that "Insert/
Remove Cartridge and Close Mailslot" is displayed on the operator panel. The
mailslot may fail if it is not displayed.
• When inserting the mailslot, push the mailslot into the tape library slowly and
carefully.
Symbol Description
The green Status Ok icon indicates that the library is fully operational and that no user
intervention is required.
