Connect the power cable and turn on the power.
Connect the power cable to the back of the tape drive. Turn on the tape
drive’s power switch. During the tape drive’s power-on self-test (POST),
the LEDs scroll sequentially right to left, then left to right in yellow and
green. LED 4 illuminates in red and green. When POST is complete, LED 4
illuminates in green. (See
Table 3-1, “LED states,” on page 24
for a
description of the LED states.)

Before You Begin
Before you begin hardware installation, do the following:

If you are using a Windows
®
PC
— Make sure that your system is equipped
with a 6-conductor IEEE 1394/FireWire controller with at least one free port.
If you plan to use an iLink port, obtain a 4-conductor to 6-conductor
converter. This converter is typically supplied with the IEEE 1394/FireWire
controller.

Important
Only Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Win98 SE
support FireWire (IEEE 1394) devices. If you are using an earlier
version of Windows, you must upgrade your operating system if
you want to use the VXA-2 FireWire tape drive.
