3. Description of the safety function
The safety function is defined by the related application.
Ì
Device safety function:
-Safe detection of a key belonging to the system and checking the associated key code. The safety outputs are switched on
if the key is valid.
-The following additionally applies in a BR series connection: the safety outputs are switched only when the device receives
a corresponding signal from its predecessor in the chain.
Ì
Safety characteristics: category, Performance Level, PFH
D
(see chapter
).
NOTICE
You can regard the complete BR device chain as one subsystem during calculation. The following
calculation method applies to the PFH

value:

Alternatively, the simplified method according to section 6.3 of EN 13849-1:2015 can be used for
calculation.
4. Exclusion of liability and warranty
In case of failure to comply with the conditions for correct use stated above, or if the safety regulations are not followed,
or if any servicing is not performed as required, liability will be excluded and the warranty void.
5. General safety precautions
Safety components fulfill personnel protection functions. Incorrect installation or tampering can lead to fatal injuries to
personnel.
Check the safe function of the device particularly
Ì
after any setup work
Ì
after the replacement of a system component
Ì
after an extended period without use
Ì
after every fault
Independent of these checks, the safe function of the device should be checked at suitable intervals as part of the mainte-
nance schedule.
DANGER
Danger to life due to selecting the wrong key or tampering.
Ì
When selecting the key version used, make sure that all measures for risk assessment for the intended
application are performed.
Ì
Unused keys must be rendered unusable or protected against unauthorized access to prevent by-
passing the safety function.
