COMM-3S Serial Communications Card
Description
The COMM-3S Serial Communications Card is a communication
input/output port for the CM1(N) and CM2(N) central processing units.
The card provides a general purpose serial port for network
communications and an RS-232-C port for down loading program data
into the network CPU’s as well as for the connection of external
devices such as printers or video annunciators. The general purpose
serial port connects to special purpose serial communications modules
which convert data signals to and from other serial communications
protocols. The communications card also contains the system clock.
There is no 485 communications circuitry on this card.

Application
The COMM-3S serial communications card is used in applications
where a long distance, hard wired, serial communications path; or a
fiber optics link between network components is required. Reduced
network communications speed is to be expected when using the
COMM-3S serial communications card.
Note:
Regenerative network capability is not compatible with COMM-
3S card communication (20mA Loop and Fiber Optic Link) protocol.
