11 Troubleshooting
Error messages are displayed in the Diagnosis window of the DTM as described in the "Invoking
the diagnostic parameters" section. See the "Invoking the diagnostic parameters" section on Page 88.
The table below lists problems which might occur during commissioning
and operation of the WirelessHART Adapter.
Problem Solution
1 FieldCare cannot find the WirelessHART Adapter
when communicating via a HART modem. • The wrong address range has been selected in the HART
communication DTM. 15 is the default address for the
WirelessHART Adapter.
– Select the address range such that the address of the
WirelessHART Adapter is in this range.
• The computer has not used the same USB or COM port
that was specified when configuring the HART modem. See
the "Connecting the HART modem and installing the
modem driver" section on Page
55.
– Configure the HART communication DTM again or use
the correct port.
• The modem's output signal is too high.
– Connect a resistor parallel to the modem as indicated in
the diagram. For this purpose, you can, for example, use
the communication resistor that is built into many
modems.
2 The WirelessHART Adapter should supply power to
a two-wire field device. Power is not supplied to the
field device. • The power supply unit is not plugged in.
– Check the "power" connector.
• The battery unit is empty or not plugged in.
– Check the "power" connector and replace the battery
unit if necessary.
– A simple check is to shake the battery unit: if you hear
liquid this means that the battery unit still has life.
Following a short-circuit, however, the battery no longer
works even if liquid can be heard.
• The power supply parameters have not been configured
correctly.
– Refer to the operating manual of the connected field
device for the appropriate values or ask the
manufacturer.
– Set the correct values in the DTM of
the WirelessHART Adapter.
• The field device has a very low impedance when switched
off. The
WirelessHART Adapter interprets this as a short-circuit
and switches off the power supply.
– Press and hold the push button for 10 to 15 seconds to
enable the configuration mode for the connected field
device. See the "Push button" section on Page
50.
– Connect a resistor, e.g. 250
