7.3 Checks during commissioning
When commissioning the WirelessHART Adapter, perform the following checks:
• Has the battery unit or the electronically controlled power supply unit been inserted correctly?
• Is the connecting cable plugged in correctly?
• Is the device ready for operation and do the light emitting diodes light up when the push button
is pressed briefly?
If the field device is not put into operation immediately after commissioning, close the housing of
the WirelessHART Adapter and the connection compartment of the field device. Tighten the
housing screws of the WirelessHART Adapter with a torque of 0.6 Nm.
7.4 Connecting the HART modem and installing the modem
driver
When commissioning for the first time, the WirelessHART Adapter must be configured via a point-
to-point connection using a HART modem, e.g. with FieldCare and a HART modem. Here, the
modem is deployed as illustrated in Figure 7-2.

Proceed as follows to connect the HART modem and to install the modem driver if it is not already
installed:
1. Connect the HART modem to terminals 5 and 6 or to terminals 7 and 8 of the WirelessHART
Adapter.
–
If the modem has a built-in communication resistor, this resistor must be switched on.
– If the modem does not have a built-in communication resistor, proceed as described in the
"Troubleshooting" section. See the "Troubleshooting" section on Page
100, Number 1, Point
3.
– If the WirelessHART Adapter is operated with a field device in a closed-control loop with a
communication resistor, the HART modem communication resistor is not required.
2. Start the computer and then plug the connector of the HART modem into the appropriate port.
– If you use a USB port, the computer recognizes new hardware. The device driver must be
installed as described in Steps 3-6.
– If you use an RS-232 port, the port is automatically connected to the COM communication
port. Steps 3-7 then do not apply.
