Burst mode (application setting)
With the burst mode, slave devices can periodically send information, such as process values,
without being prompted to do so by the master. The WirelessHART Adapter is responsible for
requesting this information from a field device that is connected to the WirelessHART Adapter and
forwarding this information to the Fieldgate. In addition, the WirelessHART Adapter is also able to
send its own process values - i.e. the device variables - to the Fieldgate. See the "Device variable
mapping" section on Page
68.
Note!
• If FieldCare or another configuration tool is communicating with the WirelessHART Adapter via
a modem, the transmission of burst information is interrupted, as is the measurement of the loop
current.
• Some HART field devices are also able to send burst information. In this case, the burst mode
should only be enabled in the WirelessHART Adapter since the adapter burst setting cannot be
synchronized with the burst setting of the field device.
1. Click
Application Settings/Burst Mode
in the DTM navigation tree. An overview indicates
which burst modes are configured.
–
You can define up to 10 different burst mode messages via the
Burst Mode 1
to
Burst
Mode
10
windows.
2. Click
Burst Mode 1
to display the corresponding parameters.
–
You can enter text in the white fields. Press
Enter
to accept your changes.
–
Press
Apply
to save the changes in the WirelessHART Adapter.
–
The gray fields are read-only.
–
An explanation of the individual parameters is provided in the "Burst mode" table below.
Mandatory fields are highlighted in bold.
In a typical configuration, the
Primary Variable
,
Secondary Variable
,
Tertiary Variable
and
Quaternary Variable
process values are sent by the connected HART field device to the Fieldgate
at regular intervals. You can use burst command no. 3 and 48 for this purpose. We recommend you
set the same time frame for both commands.
The WirelessHART Adapter "wakes" the field device, accepts the measured values and sends them
at the set interval.
