Step 5: Set up the takeoff and landing site
Consider the following aspects when choosing a takeoff location. This location will ideally also be used
as a landing site:
Place the Zoe on a level surface. It may be slightly angled, but no more than 5 degrees.
Check that there are no obstacles directly above the takeoff position. You should ensure that Zoe
can perform a return to home procedure without running into any obstacles. The standard
height at which the return to launch procedure is executed is 20 m.
Mark the takeoff position to make sure that it stays free from objects. The minimum clear terrain
takeoff is 3 m from the Zoe.
4.1.2.2 Check the system
Step 1: Calibrate the compass
You should recalibrate the compass when:
The flight environment has changed.
The mechanical setup of the Zoe has changed. For example:
The GPS and compass module has been repositioned.
Electronic devices have been added, removed, or repositioned (main controller, servos,
batteries, etc).
The mechanical structure of the multi-rotor has changed.
The flight direction appears to shift (the multi-rotor doesn’t fly straight).
Caution
Ensure that you adhere to local regulations when choosing a takeoff and landing
site. It is your responsibility to make a safety assessment before any operation.
