15. OPTIONS/ADD-ONS
15.1 Option E03 Safety current limitation AC-tester
Option “Safety current limitation” is restricting the output current of the
HV-tester to 3 mA. Based of the current limitation, the characteristic of the
High Voltage Source is „soft“ (see load characteristic diagram).
2 MOhm
test object
Note „Unominal not reached“
: At the lower voltage range, the nominal
voltage is not reachable at a high test current. The tester is interrupting
the test with the message „Unominal not reached“.
Output voltage current-limited EN 50191 (VDE 0104)
Since the output is current-limited, the safety measures according to EN
50191 (VDE 0104,sub-clause 1.2-b), e. g. provision of safeguarding de-
vices at test benches, warning indicator lights, use of devices for protection
against electric shock and other necessary protective provisions are not
explicitly required.
Touching the current-limited high voltage is not dangerous to life, but can
be very painful. Due to the shock, maybe other accidents could happen.
Therefore it is advisable to bar off test zones. Prior to use, the equipment
and materials must be checked for visible damage and/or defects.
DC -Voltage discharge currents higher than 3 mA
After switching OFF the high voltage, the test object is automatically
discharging via the HV-tester. Prerequisite for this: The test object is con-
nected to the HV-tester, for a enough long time. Is the discharging not
possible, „discharge currents“ higher than 3 mA maybe generated, this is
then highly dangerous.
Danger for Life!
Note - Voltage reed-back unit Option E04:
The consequence of a con-
nected reed-back unit, is a higher base current (leakage) at the HV-meas-
urement. The impedance of the reed-back unit is parallel to the impedance
of the test object. This affects particularly in the 100 µA measurement
range. Input impedance of the reed-back unit > 3 GOhm.
