In this example, the
Threshold
setting is –24 dBFS, the
Ratio
setting is 1:2.2, which means that a 2.2 dB input
change becomes a 1 dB output change. The
Gain
setting is 0 dB. Note how the gain line makes a smooth
curve as it crosses the threshold line; the ratio is making a smooth transition between the 1:1 (linear) below-
threshold gain curve and the 2.2:1 above-threshold gain curve. This is the soft knee characteristic. In hard
knee mode, the transition at the threshold point is abrupt.
The compressor has
Attack
and
Release
time controls. Attack determines how quickly the compressor reacts
once the signal is above the threshold, and Release determines how long it takes for the compressor to end
gain reduction once the signal falls below the threshold. The gain reduction bargraph will reflect these controls.
12.2.7.6 Dynamics Edit Menu
The Dynamics section’s
Edit
Menu is shared by all of the dynamics processors. It has the following com-
mands:

Save Dynamics Preset As
— Saves the current dynamics settings as a preset under a user-defined name
•
Load Dynamics Preset
— Loads a previously saved dynamics preset
•
Save Compressor Preset As
— Saves the compressor settings as a preset under a user-defined name
•
Load Compressor Preset
— Loads a previously saved compressor preset
•
Save Gate Preset As
— Saves the gate settings as a preset with a user-defined name
•
Load Gate Preset
— Loads a previously saved gate preset
•
Reset Dynamics
— Resets the dynamics section to its default settings.
•
Reset Compressor
— Resets the dynamics section to its default settings.
•
Reset Gate
— Resets the dynamics section to its default settings.
•
Copy
— Copies the channel settings to the clipboard.
•
Paste
— Pastes settings on the clipboard to the dynamics section.

This tab displays the aux/group selection, level setting, signal source assignments, and in/out status for the
24 Aux/Groups and the 4 internal effects sends. You can also reach this screen by touching the Aux/Groups
area in the Channel Overview screen.
