Cooler Requirements
General Requirements
1.
Cooler must meet Eaton application guidelines and requirements in this document unless specifically
approved by Eaton Corporation.
2.
An external Oil-To-Water transmission cooler must be used with Fuller UltraShift transmissions.
3.
The maximum allowable pressure drop through the oil cooler circuit is 10 PSI at 8 GPM oil flow at normal
operating temperatures.
4.
Transmission cooler must withstand operating oil pressures up to 300 PSI.
5.
Cooler must provide minimum heat extraction rates with the vehicle stationary, engine idling at normal operat-
ing temperature, and oil flow at 6 gallons per minute.
6.
A minimum heat extraction rate of 700 BTU/minute is required for most applications. A minimum heat extrac-
tion rate of 1,000 BTU/minute is required for severe applications.
7.
A minimum SAE # 12 (3/4 inch) cooler hose or comparable tubing must be used for the Fuller UltraShift ASW
transmission cooler circuit.
8.
The oil cooler and cooler lines should be free of debris, dirt, grease, etc. before being attached to the transmis-
sion. If these conditions exist, cooler and lines must be flushed or cleaned.
9.
Cooler connecting lines should be routed in such a way as to prevent kinks or leaks from rubbing on other
components. Use high temperature protection as required to protect against heat deterioration.
10. A transmission cooler bypass circuit is not recommended with the use of Fuller UltraShift ASW transmission.
