Restraint Maintenance
Periodically check all the safety belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors and anchorages to
ensure they are working properly. Look for any other loose or damaged safety belt system
parts. If you see anything that might keep a safety belt system from working properly, have it
repaired. All safety belt assemblies used in vehicles involved in a collision should be
replaced. However, if the incident was minor an inspection should be performed by a
qualified service technician for damage and proper operation and replaced if necessary.
Safety belt assemblies not used during a collision should also be inspected and replaced if
damaged or improper operation is found.
Failure to inspect and, if necessary, replace the safety belt assembly following a
collision could result in severe personal injuries in the event of another collision.
