4.1 Dynamic Fields in a Layout
External source data fields, timestamps, shift codes, and user inserts are
discussed throughout this manual. Each field has a specific format. The format is a set of
brackets, [], enclosing a unique name for the field. Timestamps, shift codes, and user
inserts can have any unique name that does not match an existing field name. External
source data fields have the form [Field #], where # is the number of the field without
leading zeroes.
Dynamic fields are replaced with the appropriate data when a job is printed. Fields
can be placed multiple times on a layout. Every instance of a field will be replaced on each
print. For example, if [Field 1] is in two different text objects it will replace in both objects
on every print. The same rule applies to timestamps, shift codes and user inserts.
