12 Setting up a Printer
12.1 Printer Components
The printer consists of a controller with an integrated touch screen user interface
and at least one print head. The printer can be configured with a variety of print heads
and an optional bulk ink delivery system. Additional options such as a stand and alarm
tower are also available.
The software is bundled as an embedded solution within the controller. The user
interface is available in several languages.
12.2 Encoder Speed Scaling
The actual value of the pulses per inch of any encoder must be set in the printer
configuration. Using the InfiniteDPI mode of the printer makes this an easy task. Every
installation contains one test job called PenTest.job in the \Hydra\jobs directory. This is a
300 DPI image that contains a four inch image plus two nozzle priming bars on either
side. If this image is printed then length of the center image should be exactly four
inches long. If it is not, the External Encoder speed setting in “Printer Configuration”
should be adjusted until the image is four inches long (excluding the nozzle priming bars)
when printed. Even if the printer will not be operated in InfiniteDPI the encoder
configuration should be done in this mode to ensure accurate calibration.
