Troubleshooting: Cannot Create a Global Hot Spare
Possible Causes
Corrective Actions
There are no empty disks available or the
disks have not been initialized
•
Install additional disks and initialize them. If existing disks have
a state of New they need to be initialized. (When a disk is
initialized, all data on the disk is lost).
•
A disk with a legacy state can be initialized, if desired, but it is
no longer legacy (initialization adds RAIDCore configuration
information to the disk).
The disk is already part of an array
A global hot spare cannot be selected if it is already part of an
existing array.
The disk assigned as the global hot spare
has failed
When prompted at system startup, press
Ctrl
+
R
to access the BIOS
Configuration Utility.
At the BIOS Configuration Utility, select View Array Details and
press
Enter
. Determine whether the disk that is designated as the
global hot spare has a state of Offline.
•
Check to see if the disk is malfunctioning or is physically
disconnected.
•
Select another disk as the global hot spare.
The disk assigned as the global hot spare is
missing
•
Check to see if the disk was removed from the backplane or
cable connection, or whether the cables from the controller to
the disk are disconnected or faulty.
•
Perform a rescan to verify that the disk is still missing.
