5. Lower the stone sufficiently to produce sparks when passing over the knives.
6. When the sharpening is completed, raise the stone slightly by pushing the carriage at stroke end
several times. The stone will raise at every click heard.
7. Push the carriage to the end of its stroke once done. The lid (item 3) will keep the carriage in place.
8. Close back the cutterhead cover and lock with the safety pin.
NOTE: When grinding, move the stone evenly over the entire width of the cutter head. This will prevent the
knives from burning and also insure an even surface is obtained.

DAILY SHEARBAR ADJUSTEMENT
To adjust the shearbar (Figure 63):
1. After the knife grinding, with the PTO engaged, lower the tractor engine speed to minimum.
2. Loosen the shearbar locking bolt (item 1).
3. Loosen the lock nut (item 2) and make the adjustment by turning the bolt (item 3) until the shear bar
makes slight contact with the cutting edge on the knives. Then, loosen slightly the bolt (item 5) to
eliminate any possible contact with the shear bar.
4. Tighten the bar locking nut (item 1) and insure no contact remains.
5. Tighten the shearbar adjustment bolt lock nut (item 2).
6. With the tractor turned off and the cutterhead fully stopped, the shearbar clearance can be checked
from the top door. Best quality cut is obtained with minimal clearance without contact.
NOTE: All the bolts used for the shearbar adjustment are special bolts. Never replace with standard bolts.
