WHEEL BRAKES AND BEARINGS
Adjustment of the brakes
Turn the wheels in the forward running direction and adjust the brakes with the screw inside the brake
unit until the brake-shoes come in contact with the drum and a slight resistance can be felt when
turning the wheel. After that unscrew the nut by about ½ turns to make the wheel turn freely without
the brakeshoes scraping the drum.
Apply briskly the handbrake 3-4 times and after that readjust the handbrake to remove the possible
play.
As the handbrake is used the braking should start after 15-20 mm after the lever has passed the dead
centre.
Reversing will require more force if the brake system is adjusted too tight.
We recommend a test run after adjustment of the brakes. Check the flawless operation of the brakes by
braking 2-3 times in the course of the test run.
Adjustment of the bearing clearance
The wheel bearings are lubricated for life and do not need any service.
(The bearings need no additional lubrication and cannot be adjusted)

Adjustment of the brakes, lubrication of the moving parts of the overrun
brake.
13 000 - 15 000 km or every six months:
a) check the brake linings for wear
b) check the operation of the overrun brake
c) lubricate the sliding parts of the overrun brake
The service-life of the double row angular contact compact bearings is long and they are maintenance-
free. Thanks to this, bearing breakdowns under normal operating conditions are very rare . However,
should a bearing failure, due to exceptional operating conditions, occur, the entire brake drum
assembly with pressed-in bearings and locking nut must be replaced.
NOTE!
Assign a specialized workshop for the work.
The wheels should be turned at least once every 3 months to keep the lubricating film intact.
