Write down this value (the current heading shown in the set option box) as your reference heading for
future use. To accept this value, push the right arrow button to highlight the set option, and then push the
execute button. If the reference heading is to be entered manually, use the keypad option to enter the
desired value.
With the reference heading and SST transmitter heading the same, the reference heading value at the
top of the remote display screen should match the heading value at the bottom of the screen, as shown
below. The reference heading and heading are also graphically displayed by a dashed vertical line with
an arrowhead and a tool icon (a long rectangular box) representing the SST transmitter, respectively.

NOTE
: If possible, take a heading reading at several locations along the bore path. This will
allow you to determine an average reference heading to use over the bore path and
possibly identify variations in the heading that could result in inaccurate readings.
Wh
en the SST transmitter’s heading does not match the reference heading, the tool icon will be to the left
or right of the dashed line, and a corresponding value will display above the tool icon to indicate the
number of degrees that the SST transmitter is off from the reference heading, as shown below.
