VideoSpider Installation Guide
31
The next field is intended for choosing the desired location of data storage that will be used by other
components of the Spider system to
record
and
playback
compressed digital surveillance video. It
specifies a drive letter and folder name of the one of the local hard drives. The default suggested path
C:\SpiderStorage
can be changed either by clicking the [Browse] button or by typing directly in the
editing box. Make sure to select the largest and the most reliable hard disk drive in order to maximize the
video recording time and improve overall system performance.
Tips:
If you expect the selected disk storage to be simultaneously accessed by multiple
server and/or clients in the networked environment, consider using one or more
dedicated hard disk drives (
other than the system disk drive
) attached to a separate
IDE or SCSI disk controller.
To assign the reserve storage drives, type in the drive name with the
colon
(like
C:
) and separate the
drives names using
semicolon
. As the reserved drive you may also use a remote network drive. In that
case, for the
SpiderMan
service you will need to specify a user account that exists either on
both
the
local machine
and
the remote
File Storage
Server. Refer to section 3.2.3 on page 25 for more
information.
The option
Split video data on volumes
allows you to set a maximum size for the file where the video
data is recorded. This can make a later access much easier. When this limit is reached, the file will be
closed and a new file with a new name will be created. You can assign the file size either in 10Mb blocks
or in minutes.
If you want to keep only the latest recorded data and do not have reasons to keep older data, you can
enable the function
Delete old data file on space limit
. To enable this function check the appropriate
check-button. If this option is checked, and there is not enough space for recording a new volume, the
oldest version will be automatically deleted.
Nevertheless, if you still want to preserve important records while still utilizing the above feature, you
can enable the feature
Don’t overwrite files with alarm events
. It will provide you safety of preserving
records containing alarm events such as motion, response from alarm sensors and so on.
When the File Storage settings have been specified as desired click the [Next>] button to proceed to the
final stage of the installation process.
