Pin Chain Conveyor (Option)
Conveyor Tension Adjustment
Introduction
The chain may become loose with use, depending on process conditions. If the
chain is loose it is necessary to adjust the tension. Inspect the chain on an annual
basis.
The tension on the pin chain is maintained by a spring device located under the
rear rail guard on the Load End of the Conveyor.
The tension will never need to be decreased. The chain may become loose after
an extended process period. To tension the chain, it is necessary to remove the
master link.
Procedure
Remove the Rail Guard on the Rear Rail by loosening the 5/16” bolt with a 1/2”
wrench. Slide the Rail Guard off of the conveyor.
Operate the conveyor at low speed until the master link is located. It is
identifiable by an appearance that is different than the rest of the chain links due
to a spring clip. When the master link is located on a sprocket at the Unload End
of the conveyor, turn Off the conveyor and turn the power Off at the Machine
Disconnect Switch.
Push the spring tensioner toward the Unload End of the machine. Insert a crew or
other metal object in the opening to the rear of the screws to retain the tensioner
so that it is not fully extended. See Figure 6–3.
The chain now has enough slack to remove the master link. Remove the spring
clip and pull out the connecting link to disconnect the chain.
Use a Chain Break for #25 to #60 Chain to remove a pin from a link in the chain
and remove the link. Re-install the master link to connect the chain.
Remove the screw or other object that secures the tensioner at the Load End of
the conveyor.
