Chapter 5 Administration
To reset the nsroot password, you must boot the T1000 into single user mode, mount the file
systems in read/write mode, and remove the set T1000 user nsroot entry from the
ns.conf
file. You can then reboot, log on with the default password (nsroot), and choose a new
password.
To reset the nsroot password
Step 1
Connect a computer to the T1000 serial port and log on.
Note:
You cannot log on by using ssh to perform this procedure; you must connect
directly to the T1000.
As the operating system starts, it displays the following message:
Hit [Enter] to boot immediately, or any other key for command prompt.
Booting [kernel] in # seconds.
Step 2
Press
CTRL+C
.The following message appears:
Type '?' for a list of commands, 'help' for more detailed help.
ok
Step 3
Enter
boot -s
to start the T1000 in single user mode. After the T1000 boots, it displays the
following message:
Enter full path name of shell or RETURN for /bin/sh:
Step 4
Press the ENTER key to display the # prompt, and enter the following commands to mount
the file systems:
fsck /dev/ad0s1a
mount /dev/ad0s1a /flash
Step 5
Using a text editor of your choice, edit the /flash/nsconfig/ns.conf file and remove the set
system user nsroot entry. Save the file and exit the text editor.
Step 6
Enter
reboot
to reboot the T1000.
Step 7
When the T1000 completes rebooting, it prompts for the user name and password. Log on as
nsroot, with the password nsroot. Once logged on to the T1000, you will be required to enter
a new nsroot user password.
Step 8
Follow the prompts to change the password. Exit the config ns menu.
