Chapter 3 Configuring and Managing the IP Camera

Video Quality Control
Choose an option for the video quality of the primary video stream from the
IP camera:
•
Constant Bit Rate
—Specifies that the video stream is output at or close
to the constant bit rate that you choose. The default value for the wired
IP camera is 4 Mbps. The default value for the wireless IP camera is
1 Mbps. A higher bit rate provides better video quality but consumes
more bandwidth.
•
Fixed Quality
—Specifies that video is output at a fixed quality, which
ranges from Very High to Very Low. The bit rate may vary to maintain
this quality. The default fixed quality is Normal. A higher fixed quality
provides better video quality but consumes more bandwidth.
You can use these options to help manage bandwidth use in your network.
For example, if the IP camera is focused on an area with little movement,
such as an emergency exit, you can configure it with a low fixed quality.
Max. Frame Rate
Select the desired maximum frame rate per second for the primary video
stream from the IP camera.
For the wired IP camera, the default values are 30 for NTSC and 25 for PAL.
For the wireless IP camera, default value is 15.
A higher maximum frame rate provides better video quality but consumes
more bandwidth
MPEG-4 Settings 2
Note
These MPEG-4 Settings 2 options appear if the Resolution setting for MPEG-4 Settings 1 is
lower than 720 x 480 for NTSC or 720 x 576 for PAL.
Enable MPEG-4
Settings 2
Check this check box to enable a secondary MPEG-4 stream on the IP
camera, which allows dual streaming from the IP camera.
When you check this check box, additional MPEG-4 Settings 2 options
appear.
Resolution
Display only.
For the wired IP camera, the resolution of the secondary video
stream is set to 352 x 240 for NTSC or 352 x 288 for PAL, depending on the
video system that you designated in the Video System option in this window.
For the wireless IP camera, the resolution of the secondary video stream is
set to CIF.
Video Quality Control
Choose an option for video quality for the secondary video stream from the
IP camera:

Constant Bit Rate
—Specifies that the video stream is output at or close
to the constant bit rate that you choose. The default value for the wired
IP camera is 1.2 Mbps. The default value for the wireless IP camera is
512 Kbps. A higher bit rate provides better video quality but consumes
more bandwidth.

Fixed Quality
—Specifies that video is output at a fixed quality, which
ranges from Very High to Very Low. The bit rate may vary to maintain
this quality. The default fixed quality is Normal. A higher fixed quality
provides better video quality but consumes more bandwidth.
