Configuring IP Unicast Routing
This chapter describes how to configure IP unicast routing on the Catalyst 3560 switch. Basic routing
functions, including static routing and the Routing Information Protocol (RIP), are available with both
the standard multilayer software image (SMI) and the enhanced multilayer image (EMI). To use
advanced routing features and other routing protocols, you must have the enhanced multilayer image
installed on the switch.
Note
For more detailed IP unicast configuration information, refer to the Cisco IOS IP and IP Routing
Configuration Guide for Release 12.1. For complete syntax and usage information for the commands
used in this chapter, refer to the Cisco IOS IP and IP Routing Command Reference for Release 12.1.

Note
When configuring routing parameters on the switch and to allocate system resources to maximize the
number of unicast routes allowed, you can use the sdm prefer routing global configuration command
to set the Switch Database Management (sdm) feature to the routing template. For more information on
the SDM templates, see
Chapter 7, “Configuring SDM Templates”
or refer to the sdm prefer command
in the command reference for this release.
