1. Determine the Active Time in minutes:
Active Minutes = Number of pictures per day x (Active Du Communication
Time)/60
For example, a camera in the Deep Sleep state sends 24 photos per day. When the baud
rate is 115200 bps and the photo size is 100 KB, the active minutes are:
Active Minutes =24 x (25 s 30 seconds)/60 = 22 minutes/day of Active Time
2. Determine the total time in Quiescent Low Powered State
Quiescent minutes = 1440 minutes per day – Active minutes
For the example, the time in the quiescent low-powered state is:
Quiescent minutes = 1440 – 22 = 1418 minutes
3. Determine the power consumption during the quiescent state in Amp hours.
Quiescent power = (quiescent minutes x quiescent current draw)/60
In the example, the power consumption for the quiescent state in Amp hours is:
Quiescent power = (1418 minutes x 6 mA)/60 = 141.8 mAh or 0.1418 Ah/day
4. Determine the power consumed by the active state in Amp hours.
Active power = (Active minutes x active current draw)/60
The active power for the example is:
Active power = (22 minutes x 250 mA)/60 = 91.67 mAh or 0.0917 Ah/day
5. Total power consumption is the sum of the active and quiescent power consumption:
Total power = quiescent power + active power
The total power consumption for the example is:
Total power = 0.1418 Ah/day + 0.0917 Ah/day
Total power = 0.2335 Ah/day
