Using the answering machine
Switch message alert beeps on/off
1. Press and release
. The machine
announces the current setting, either
“Message alert Off”
or
“Message alert On”
.
2. If this is not the setting you want, press
and hold
until you hear the alternative
setting, then
release
the button.
Remote access
You can operate your answering
machine and listen to your messages
from any modern Touchtone
™
phone by
calling your BT Freelance 501 and
entering a 3-digit security PIN.
Switch on your answering machine
from another phone
1. Dial your phone number and let it ring.
After 20 rings, your answering machine
will switch on.
Operating your answering machine
from another phone
1. Call your BT Freelance 501. When you
hear the OGM, press
✱
within 8 seconds.
2. The machine announces
“Please enter your
security code”
, use the phone’s keypad to
enter your 3-digit PIN (default PIN is 000).
Switch message alert
beeps on to alert you to
new answering machine
messages. The default
setting is Off. The beeps
will stop when you play
back your messages.
To check the message
alert setting in standby
mode, press
and release
the button.
IMPORTANT
Using a PIN code
prevents other people
from accessing your
machine without
permission.
You should
change the security PIN
from the original setting
of 000.
