Electrical considerations
• Take additional care when you handle devices during cold weather. Heating reduces indoor
humidity and increases static electricity.
• The chassis comes with electrostatic discharge (ESD) connectors. Refer to the documentation that
comes with the chassis for using the ESD connector.
Electrical considerations
The Brocade 6542 16-Gbps FC Switch Module requires a maximum of 140 watts, which is provided by
a 12 V power supply from the Inspur Shangri-la Blade Server chassis. Out of this 12 V power input,
3.3 V is provided by a standby power supply. No other power requirement or provision exists.
Environmental considerations
Ensure proper cooling and ventilation by verifying the following:
• Air vents on the blade server are not blocked or restricted.
• Ambient air temperature at the front of the enclosure does not exceed 35ºC (95ºF) while the
switch module is operating.
Preparing the blade server for the switch module
Before the Brocade 6542 16-Gbps FC Switch Module can be inserted in the Inspur Shangri-la Blade
Server chassis, make sure the following conditions are met:
• The blade server is powered up.
• The I/O module bay into which the Brocade 6542 16-Gbps FC Switch Module will be inserted is
empty and ready to receive the switch module.
• All power requirements specific to the Inspur Shangri-la Blade Server chassis are met.
• If you are replacing an existing switch module with a new one, the new one should be ready to be
inserted within one minute from removal of the old one to maintain the proper cooling level in the
chassis.
Inserting the switch module in the chassis
Insert the switch module in the blade server chassis in the required slot and check for proper
functioning of the switch modules.
Perform the following procedure to insert the switch module in the blade server chassis.
NOTE
The switch module is designed to work in specific switch module slots in the blade server chassis. Do
not insert the switch module in any other slot because it will not work.
1. Verify that the blade server chassis switch module slot into which the switch module is being inserted
is empty. Switch module slots are marked in the following figure.
