Hardware features 

 

 

The Brocade 6542 Gen-5 16-Gbps FC switch module/blade server SAN I/O module provides the 
following hardware features: 

 

•  Up to 16 16-Gbps external Fibre Channel ports to connect with external FC storage or an FC switch. 

 

-

  The external ports auto-negotiate to 4-, 8-, or 16-Gbps speeds. 

-

  The external ports support F_Port, N_Port, D_Port, and E_Port modes. 

-

  The external ports support connecting with another FC switch module through E_Port to E_Port 

mode or through N_Port (NPIV) to F_Port mode. 

-

  The external ports support an optional Brocade ISL Trunking license (included in the Enterprise 

model by default) that trunks up to eight ports in a single port group when connected to another 

Brocade switch. 

-

  The external ports support Dynamic Load Sharing (DLS) and Dynamic Path Selection (DPS) using 

exchange-based balancing when operating as E_Ports. 

•  Up to 32 16-Gbps internal backplane FC ports to connect with the FC controller on server blades. 

 

-

  The internal ports support 16-Gbps speed. 

-

  The internal ports support F_Port mode and N_Port mode for NPIV connection from HBA 

mezzanine. 

•  Two field-replaceable, redundant, hot-swappable fan modules. 
•  Two 16-Gpsb SWL Optical Modules (SFPs) in each of the three models. 
•  Ports on Demand (POD) support. 
•  One green and amber light-emitting diode (LED) above each port to indicate port status.

The switch module runs on Fabric OS. Included with the switch module as part of the ease-of-use
