High Data-Rate Limitations
In practice almost all modern PCs will support data rates of 38,400 bps;
however, a number of PCs that we tested were not able to support data
rates of 57,600 bps due to the design of their serial ports. If you experience
problems with particular PCs, try reducing the data rate.
Increasing the data rate of serial connections reduces the maximum cable
lengths. As a rule of thumb, doubling the data rate halves the maximum
distance. At 57,600 bps, limit the cable lengths to 50 feet (15.2 m).
If you experience any problems using ADMODE, reduce the data rate.
In practice, 38,400 bps is a “safe” setting for most applications.
