MODEM 32144
Speed Matching
If speed conversion is not desired,
the DTE interface rate should be
set to follow the rate at which the
modem connected (i.e., DTE rate =
DCE rate, or speed matching).
Change the Speed matching
parameter shown in the diagram
to 1 (enable).
NOTE
Speed matching is only
effective for dial applications
and will only function if error
correction or buffer mode is
enabled.

The V.32 master handshake
normally used by the modem is
incompatible with the CCITT V.33
and Bell 208 handshakes. However,
the modem (only) can be
configured for either V.33 or Bell
208 compatibility, and for Bell 208
operation. (To determine if a
modem supports Bell 208
operation, see
Section 2.7
.)
V.33 or Bell 208 speed types
can be set independently of other
options via the SPEED TYPE
screen; however, to ensure proper
operation, it is recommended
that you use the V.33, Bell 208,
or V.32/208 Quick Setup
configuration, as explained in
Chapter 2
.
The available speed-type
selections are listed below. Use
pushbuttons 1 (DEC) and 3 (INC)
to cycle through the speed-type
selections. The currently selected
speed type is displayed in the
SPEED TYPE screen (upper right
corner), as shown in
Fig. 3-3
.
