Fuel Line Replacement
Fuel lines and vapor return lines may be formed of rigid
steel tubing, flexible nylon tubing, or neoprene hose.
Most lines fasten to the frame of the car with insulated
clamps and screws. Replace any damaged insulators
and clamps. Rigid lines can be replaced either as pre-
formed units, or be cut and formed to fit the vehicle from
bulk stock. Use steel tubing only. Never use copper tub-
ing in place of steel tubing. Hoses must be marked for
fuel system use or they rapidly deteriorate when used
for gasoline. Do not substitute rubber hoses on vehicles
that use nylon fuel tubing. An assortment of fittings are
used to join fuel lines:
• Flare type
• Compression type
• Push-connect type
• Spring-lock type, figure 3-2
