Top Dead Center (TDC):
The point in engine rotation when
cylinder number one is at the top of its travel and the valves
are closed.
Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI):
An under-
hood label containing specific emissions and idle speed in-
formation.
Viscous Fan Clutch:
A temperature-sensing fan drive filled
with a silicone fluid. As the temperature of the air passing
the clutch increases, the internal valving in the clutch allows
the fluid to flow into the coupling and increases the speed
of the fan blade.
Voltage Drop:
The measurement of the loss of voltage
caused by the resistance of a conductor or a circuit device.
Voltmeter:
A voltmeter is an instrument used for measur-
ing the potential difference, or voltage, between two points
in an electrical or electronic circuit. Some voltmeters are in-
tended for use in direct current (DC) circuits; others are de-
signed for alternating current (AC) circuits.
Wastegate:
A diaphragm-actuated bypass valve used to
limit turbocharger boost pressure by limiting the speed of
the exhaust turbine.
Wave Rectification:
A process by which the alternating
current (AC) produced by a generator is converted to the
direct current (DC) needed to charge the battery and power
electrical devices on the vehicle.
