Application 4
This application shows local routing between subnets in the same stack (Layer 3),
thus offloading traffic from the enterprise backbone (1) and routing between
subnets on different stacks (2). The routing between subnets on different stacks is
performed in the source stack. The packet is then switched at Layer 2 over the
backbone, reducing the Layer 3 load on the central router.
1
Local routing among subnets in the same stack (Layer 3) thus easing the load on
the backbone uplinks.
2
Routing among subnets on different stacks is performed in the source stack. The
packet is then switched at Layer 2 over the backbone, reducing the Layer 3
switching load on the central router.
