Kermit Database Upload
A database upload does not affect normal switch operation.
1. If the database file is on floppy disk or in a storage directory on your hard disk,
copy it to your Kermit directory first. Connect the PC serial link to serial port 1 of
the system and log on from Kermit as normal.
2. Set the system and PC to the fastest matching port speed they support
(see
page 35)
.
3. From the
Administration
menu, select
Database Management
followed by
Erase and Restart
. Select
Y
and wait for the
# N3
response to appear.
4. Press
Ctrl
and
]
simultaneously, then press
C
. At the Kermit prompt, type
SEND
and press
↵
.
5. The system requests the
"Local Source File"
. Enter the name of the DOS file
to be uploaded.
6. The system request the
"Remote Destination File"
. Enter
DB
press
↵
.
7. The screen shows the progress of the database file transfer. The PC beeps on
transfer completion.
8. Enter
FIN
and wait a few seconds until the
MS-Kermit>
prompt appears.
9. Press
C
and then
↵
to reconnect to the system.

FTP Database Upload
1. Start your command line FTP program.
– In Windows 95, 98 and NT, select
Start | Run
and enter
ftp
.
2. Enter
open
n
where
n
is the IP address of the INDeX CPU.
3. When requested enter your username followed by your password.
4. Enter
bin
to ensure that FTP file transfers user binary mode.
5. Enter
hash
if you want a visual indication of the transfer of data packets.
6. Enter
send
fn
db
where
fn
is the file path of the database file to send.
7. Enter
close
to end the FTP connection.
– With Windows FTP, enter
quit
to close the FTP window.

see "Using an Uploaded Database" on page 41.
