ACTT Xspotter Service Manual
• With a carbon pile, apply a current load
equal to 75% of rated output capacity of the
alternator for 10 seconds.
• Test voltage at the alternator terminals
using a volt meter. The voltage should not
decrease more than 0.50 volts.
• If voltage drops more than 0.50 volts,
the alternator is defective and must be
replaced.
• Check the amperage against the specified
maximum. Readings within 10% are
considered acceptable.
• Inspect the alternator pulley and drive
pulley for correct alignment.
• Ensure that the alternator mounting bolts
are torqued properly on the alternator
mounting bracket.
Engine Compartment
Water Pump, Fan and Idler Pulley.
• Check water pump, fan and idler pulley
(see engine manufacturer’s documentation
for procedures and specifications).
• Loosen belts and rotate water pump pulley,
checking for smoothness of water pump
bearing operation and proper end play.
• Inspect water pump shaft for wobble and
evidence of leaks.
• Inspect idler pulley for cracks. Check
bearing for smooth, quiet operation.
Torsional Vibration Damper
• Inspect torsional vibration damper for
evidence of dents, fluid loss, wobble,
swelling and deformation.
COOLING SYSTEM SERVICE
Coolant Drain and Fill Deaeration
Procedure
NOTICE
The following information is provided
courtesy of Cummins® Engine Company.
To avoid costly repairs that may not be
covered by the engine manufacturer’s
warranty always follow these steps when
servicing the cooling system.
Draining the system
WARNING
Do not remove the pressure cap from
a hot engine. Wait until the coolant
temperature is below 120°F (50°C) before
removing the pressure cap. Heated
coolant spray or steam can cause
personal injury.
WARNING
Coolant is toxic. Keep away from children
and pets. If not reused, dispose of in
accordance with local environmental
regulations.
1. Isolate the engine from the vehicle
cooling system by closing all coolant flow
valves to the heater before initiating the
repair. This will prevent the heater circuit
from draining, minimizing the chance for
air pockets to be present during the fill
process.
