Preventive Maintenance
Figure 17
Fan Blade and Shroud
• Inspect fan shroud for secure installation.
Inspect for cracks or damage. Check
for adequate clearance between the
fan and the fan shroud, or other engine
compartment components, in both the
engaged and disengaged mode. Repair if
the clearance is inadequate.
• Check the fan for looseness and damage,
such as bent, cracked or missing blades,
loose rivets, or missing weights. Re-torque
if loose, replace if damaged.
• Inspect drive belts for cuts, wear,
weathering, proper tension and alignment.
• Check fan clutch for looseness or leakage.
Drain air filter, if equipped. If moisture or
contamination is detected, the filter must be
disassembled and flushed thoroughly with
clean parts solvent. Dry thoroughly before
reassembly. The cause of the moisture
or contamination must be determined
and action must be taken to correct the
condition.
Intake Air Piping
• Examine air intake piping from the air
cleaner to the intake manifold, checking for
loose clamps or connections, cracks and
punctures or tears.
• Disconnect intake piping and examine
inside of intake pipes for buildup, deposits
or foreign material. If deposits are found,
find and repair the source of the leak. Clean
the pipes thoroughly and reassemble.
• Inspect air filter and housing.

hardware and isolators (Figure 18).
• Check the torque on all engine mount
fasteners.
