IX. ADVANCED OPERATION – COMPUTER CONTROLS
The controller for all BCX Series cabinets with computer controls is fully programmable,
with an easy-to-use microprocessor-based programmable controller. In the case of the
Computer Controls Package, an IBM PC-compatible computer controls cabinet operation.
This computer is connected to an I/O (input/output) module to actuate cabinet components.
Several standard industry test specifications are built in and pre-programmed, so the user
can begin testing immediately after both installation and setup procedures are followed.
Standard tests can be modified, and custom tests and procedures with multiple parameters
can be easily programmed into the controller, providing flexibility, meeting multiple needs
and placing real control into the hands of the user.
The computer is normally located on or above the control panel on the right side of the
cabinet.
Since some customers have specified a desktop model, the computer may be
located in an area adjacent to the BCX cabinet rather than on the cabinet.
ATLAS’ computer design includes a comprehensive datalogging feature. The position or
status of every control function of the cabinet such as cycle time, cycle status, temperature,
input status, output status etc., is output to a file for ultimate control, analysis, diagnostics
and, most importantly, test documentation. Test reports can be programmed to be almost
automatic, in graph and other formats, providing accuracy and documentation that make
traditional chart recorders look primitive in comparison. Spreadsheet downloads and
graphing provide capabilities that go far beyond the performance of a test, enabling testing
and management personnel to integrate information, feedback, and performance into
decision-making processes.
I. INTRODUCTION TO OPERATING THE COMPUTER
The computer is very easy to learn and use. If not familiar with Windows, then it is
suggested to take a basic Windows training class prior to the operation of this cabinet.
1. Operating System
The operating system used on PC-controlled cabinets is Windows NT by Microsoft.
This provides for a more robust and secure control of the computer itself. The cabinet
is set-up for a direct boot right into the BCX control program. The administrative
rights are password protected to prevent unauthorized use of the computer such as
installation and operation of non related programs that may interfere with the BCX
control program. None of the computer’s set-up should be changed unless authorized
in writing by ATLAS. Non-authorized changes to the computer’s operating system
setup will void the warranty and subject the user to all consequences and costs arising
from such a change.
