10. Operation
The following section provides information required when using the software to operate the Axia Ethernet sensor.
Communicating with the sensor, requires knowledge of Ethernet standards and operation.
10.1 Sensor Environment
CAUTION:
Damage to the outer jacketing of the sensor cable could enable moisture
or water to enter an otherwise sealed sensor. Ensure the cable jacketing has not
deteriorated to prevent sensor damage.
NOTICE:
Sensors may react to exceptionally strong and changing electromagnetic fields, such
as those fields created by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines.
To ensure proper operation, the IP64 rating of the sensor must match or exceed the sensor’s environment.
10.2 LED Outputs
The Ethernet Axia sensor provides (3) LED units for Link/Activity (L/A), Diagnostic (DIAG), and Status.
Each of these units can be off, red, green, or both red and green (orange).
10.2.1 LED Self-Test Sequence
When the user applies power to the sensor, the sensor completes a self-test, during which the LEDs
individually turn on in the following sequence:

Approximately one second for each
LED.

10.2.2 L/A LED
One LED signals link/activity on the Ethernet port as follows:
LED State
Link
Activity
Condition
Off
No
No
Ethernet link/activity is not detected.
Green
Yes
Yes
Ethernet link/activity is detected. The
light stays green for 5 seconds after any
link activity.
10.2.3 DIAG LED
One LED signals the communication status of the Ethernet Axia sensor interface as follows:
LED State
Description
Red
Indicates a error in the STATUS word except the following:
1. The gage temperature is out of range.
2. A gage is disconnected.
Off
Ethernet interface is in the state “Operational”. No errors are found.
