5.4. DADSR Envelopes
The DADSR envelope type emulates the envelopes common on analog synthesizers. One of
the nice features of DADSR is that each point has a fixed definition. When you slide one
point in time forward or backwards, the other points automatically slide with it. The values
of each point are simultaneously visible on the bottom line of the ENVELOPE window.
Here's what each component of the DADSR envelope does, as listed along the bottom of the
ENVELOPES window:
•
Delay
delays the attack stage of the envelope for up to 30 seconds from the
moment the note is triggered. (In the picture above, the delay is set to zero
seconds.)
• *
Attack * time. This is the amount of time it takes for the envelope to reach the
Peak level. It can range from 0 to 30 seconds. Its slope is a straight line.
•
Peak
level is the level of the attack phase. Hundreds of values between 0 (no
attack level) and 1.000 (maximum attack level) are available.
•
Decay
time is the amount of time it takes for the envelope to reach the Sustain
level, after the Attack phase is completed.
•
Sustain
level is the level of the envelope as you hold down the key, in a range
between 0 and 1.000. Note that the Sustain level can be higher than the Peak
level.
•
Release
time is how long it will take for the envelope level to decay to 0 after the
note is released.
♪
: When you release a key before the attack time or decay time is completed, the envelope will
immediately jump to the release stage of the envelope, from the last level it reached.
To change the envelope times or levels:
As with the CZ envelope, parameter values may be changed in one of two ways:
• Click a point and drag it to the desired value.
!: To graphically edit the points of a default envelope, you may need to click at the bottom of the
graphic display on the release point and drag it to the right to uncover the Sustain point.
• Click a value field and drag it up/down to the desired value.
Double-click on the Peak or Sustain fields to restore each to its default value
(Peak to 1.00,
Sustain to 0.00).
