4.2.8. Pitch envelope
The pitch envelope modulates the frequency of the waveform over time. If there is no pitch
envelope (that is, if all the Pitch envelope points are at the bottom of the display, or if the
Envelope Depth parameter is set to zero) each key will play its normal pitch. If the Pitch
envelope goes positive for a time period, the frequency will go sharp; as the envelope level
falls, the pitch will return to its normal frequency.
♪
: To make the frequency go flat from the normal pitch when you strike a key, go to the ENVELOPES
tab, select a Pitch envelope, and set the Line's pitch envelope Depth to a negative number.
4.3. Detune, Modulation, and Noise Source
Between Line 1 and Line 2, in the center of the Synthesis screen, are controls that have to do
with the interaction between Lines, and other modulation and sound sources.
4.3.1. Detune (Oct, Note, and Fine)
The Detune controls are active only if both Lines are turned on: in 1+2’ or 1+1’ modes as set
by the LINE SELECT section on the upper right side of the on-screen keyboard. Changing
the pitch of one of the sound generators relative to the other can lead to quite dramatic
sound effects. The Detune parameters apply only to the right-side sound generator. Edit
these parameters by clicking and dragging up or down on the number you want to change:
• The OCT (Octave) parameter ranges from +3 to -3 octaves. For example, if OCT
is set to +1, when Line 1 is playing middle C the right generator (Line 1’ or 2’) will
play high C.
• The NOTE parameter changes the pitch of the right Line by semitones, 11 up or -11
down. For example, if NOTE is set to 7, when Line 1 is playing middle C the right
generator (Line 1’ or 2’) will play middle G.
• The FINE parameter changes the pitch of the oscillator in cents, or hundredths of
a semitone, in a range from +60 to -60. Detuning the right Line from the left a
few cents gives a natural depth to the sound, similar to a chorus effect.
