5.4.2

Quark Management CPU

Quark will be used as mCPU only when PEX9716 is configured in fabric mode.

Quark OS distribution is based on YOCTO distribution running with Kernel

. The rootfs is

based on busybox. It contains only essential software to function as mCPU. It provides a

vNIC

to host server and Skylake-H. It also assigns the I210 device on the card to host.

The I219 is an integrated ethernet controller available on Skylake-H. I210 and I219 ethernet
devices are directly connected in the hardware and these provide a communication path
between Skylake-H and Host CPU. This connectivity helps in PXE booting Skylake-H from the
image placed on the host server.

Quark software is provided as an ISO image which can be booted and then installed onto a disk
(Micro SD card, USB). Alternately the software can be installed (offline) from a standard Linux
PC onto a Micro SD card, connect to Quark Micro SD card slot, and boot from it.

Linux PC (tested with Centos 7.2, Fedora 18) for dumping the ISO image on Micro SD

1. Connect the Micro SD card (external card reader) or USB to the Linux PC.

2. Mount the

iso

image.

Example:

mount SSPROMINI-QUARK-BOOT-<version>.iso /mnt

3. Run the

create-bootusb.sh

script in the

utils

directory and follow the instructions.
