5.2.1 Base Mode
If the PCIE-7210-1 is used in MaxCore MC3000 environment, PEX9716 should be programmed
with Base Mode configuration. In this mode, PEX9716 acts as a simple PCIe switch connected
to Skylake-H. Skylake-H will act as the root complex and Quark subsystem will not be used in
base mode. For switch settings, see
Figure 4-9 on page 61 .

5.2.2 Fabric Mode
If the PCIE-7210-1 is used in third party vendor RMS (Dell R730) and MaxCore MC1000 IPC,
PEX9716 should be configured in fabric mode.

5.3 Prerequisites for Card Operation
Following are some of the configuration settings to be considered for the card to be functional
in standard or RMS/MaxCore MC3000/MaxCore MC1000 IPC in which card is plugged in.
5.3.1 BIOS Settings
After the card is plugged into the server, ensure that the “Spread Spectrum Clock” (SSC) on
each CPU BIOS is configured as per the following table.
Based on the ordered card variant, the default factory settings would be as follows:

PCIE-7210-1 is programmed with fabric mode firmware.

PCIE-7210-1-MC is programmed with base mode firmware.

PCIE-7210-1-P is programmed with base mode firmware.
