Trouble Shooting Guide for EBs and EBBs
¡
Is the supply voltage
correct? The range per-
mitted is given on the
label of the EB/EBB and
can also be found in the
table on page 73.
¡
Is the supply voltage
stable and the network
able to provide enough
power?
¡
Are nominal power
of lamp and EB identi-
cal?
¡
Try again. Switch off
ballast and connect
lamphead. Switch on
ballast and wait for
approx. five seconds.
¡
If lamp does not
strike, check to ensure
that safety loop on
UV-protection glass is
ok. A cracked UV-pro-
tection glass will acti-
vate lamphead's safety
cut out. In this case, it is
not possible to strike
lamp unless cracked
UV-protection glass is
replaced.
¡
If lamp doesn’t
strike, ballast, lamp,
lamphead or cables
may be faulty.
¡
Never connect a
potentially faulty
lamphead to a second
ballast – two defective
ballasts may be the
result!
To test a ballast, connect
a working lamphead
directly (without using
any head-to-ballast
extension cables).
¡
Lamp strikes but the
ballast goes off after a
few minutes?
-
Lamp may be defec-
tive or at the end of its
lifetime.
-
Over-temperature
protection is engaged
(then, red
TEMP
LED
will be lit). Reasons for
over-temperature may
be too high ambient
temperatures, direct
exposure of ballast to
sunlight or blocked
ventilation slots. After
ballast has cooled
down (5 to 15 min-
utes), it will automati-
cally re-strike lamp.
Red LED
TEMP
how-
ever, will stay on until
ballast is switched off
or disconnected from
mains for at least 15
seconds.
-
Internal protection of
ballast was activated
because supply volt-
age is too high, too
low or because there is
too much ripple on the
supply voltage. In case
a generator is being
used, its voltage should
be set between
95...125 V or
185...245 V.
-
Ballast will switch off
after any mains fail-
ure. In this case, switch
ballast off and on
again.
-
Defective lampheads
(lampheads showing a
short-circuit to protec-
tive earth) may result
in ballasts going off as
well. In this case, test
ballast with a working
lamphead.
-
Even extension cables
may be the reason for
ballasts to switch off
again. Therefore,
check extension cables
and replace them
immediately if they
are visibly damaged
(e.g. pinched, split or
burnt).
!
If possible, always
send defective ballasts
together with head-to-
ballast extension cable
and lamphead to ARRI
Service (see page 99
for address details) for
inspection.
