Varrox Eddy has been designed for evaporation of pure oxalic acid
dihydrate. The amount of solid oxalic acid dihydrate used should be
between 0,8 g and 2,4 g per treatment.
Varrox Eddy was developed for use by experienced beekeepers with at
least eight years of education.
Varrox Eddy is battery powered when in use.
Initial Setup
Charge the battery pack by connecting the battery to the charger. Only use
the charger that is supplied with the set. Push the start button to show how
much charge is in the battery. Make sure to charge completely before first
use. After charging, remove the charger from mains supply and the battery.
For a full charge the battery pack should be connected to the electrical
power supply for at least 2 to 4 hours. When the start button is pushed, the
display for the battery pack shows 1 to 4 lights. Each light represents about
25% of charge in the battery. During charging the LED on the charger
glows red. To achieve 100% charge, keep the charger connected to the
battery pack until the light on the charger changes from red to green.
The battery pack may now be disconnected from the charger and inserted
carefully into the base. To ensure a safe connection snap the latch in.
Conditions of use
A fully charged battery pack will last for the treatment of up to 15 colonies
using 2 g of oxalic acid dihydrate in the device per treatment. With age the
capacity of the battery pack will decrease and with it the number of
treatments that can be achieved with one full charge. This also applies if the
battery pack is stored in an uncharged condition for a long period and at
temperatures close to or below freezing. Replacement battery packs are
available from the manufacturer or the local representatives.
The charger may be connected to the electricity network, generators,
transformers and inverters supplying input: 110–240 V AC 50/60 Hz, 0,6 A.
Output: 21 V DC, 1 A. The positive pole is in the center of the plug. Only use
the original charger supplied with the set.
The device is protected against dust and water spray with battery pack
inserted to
IP 54
and may be used at outside temperature from –10 °C to
+30 °C up to 2000 m above sea level. It may be used in wooden hives,
polystyrene hives, plastic hives and hives with or without open mesh floors.
The hive opening must be at least 15 mm in height. The hive opening must
be not less than 90 mm wide. The distance between the crucible and the
bottom bar of the frames must be at least 5 mm.
Place the device into the beehive, it is not advised to use the product outside
the beehive or underneath the beehive.
Any wire mesh above the crucible may lead to a malfunction of the device.
It is recommended that there is a maximum gap of 15 mm between the wire
mesh and the top of the device.
Do not expose Varrox Eddy to temperatures above 60 °C. Do not store for
an extended time period at temperatures below freezing or with an
uncharged battery pack.
Protect from standing moisture, do not clean under running water, do not
submerge in a water bucket.
