Blur the outer borders of the layer.

Detect edges in the layer by adding blur and
subtract the result from the original layer
image gradually using the mixing parameter.

Gaussian blur
Add blur to the layer using the Gaussian
function. The result is a very smooth blur, as
if looking through a translucent glass.
