Speed Touch DNS
IP addresses are fundamental to the operation of the Internet. IP
addresses, being 32bit numbers, are ideally suited for computers
but are far from usable to humans.
Therefore, the
Domain Name System (DNS)
was designed: a
distributed database, held by a hierarchical system of servers, that
is used by TCP/IP applications to map between hostnames and IP
addresses.
This chapter describes
STHome
's DNS abilities.
Click
in the left pane of the
STHome
pages to pop up the
'DNS'
page:
Check the
'Server active'
checkbox to enable the
STHome
DNS
server (per default enabled).
In the
'Domain name'
field you can enter the domain name of
your LAN (default domain name is '
lan
'). You may use a DNS
subdomain name, e.g.
dsl.office.lan
. Click
and
to finish.
