Tighten the two nuts together a little at a time until the column is gripped
by the ferrule. When the ferrule just begins to grip, notice the position of
the nut and then tighten the nuts by turning no more than 60 degrees (one
flat).
6
Loosen and remove the swaging nut.
7
Rest the ceramic column cutter against the column. Hold it at a 45-degree
angle and slide it down to touch the small end face of the ferrule
(
).
Score the column, then break off the end. It should break off with a small
length of column extending beyond the ferrule (see
). The end of
the column need not be perfectly even, but should not have cracks that
extend under the ferrule. Clean off any visible flakes of material from the
end of the ferrule and column.
