12. MAINTAINING THE INSTRUMENT
12.1. About this Chapter
This chapter covers basic maintenance procedures that can be performed by the
user.
12.2. Cleaning and Storage
12.2.1. Cleaning the Instrument
Clean the instrument with a damp cloth and a mild soap. Do not use abrasives,
solvents or alcohol, since they may damage the instrument.
12.2.2. Storing the Instrument
When storing the instrument, even for extended periods of time, it is not necessary to
remove the battery pack. However, the batteries will gradually discharge. To keep the
batteries in optimal conditions, perform periodically a complete charge/discharge
cycle at least once a month.
12.3. Batteries
12.3.1. Charging the Batteries
At delivery, the NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) batteries must be charged. When fully
charged, the batteries typically provide three hours at 25°C with backlight off.
When the instrument is powered by the battery, the battery icon at the top of the
screen informs you about the condition of the battery. The battery symbols are:

symbol appears when there is less than five minutes of
operating time left.
Use the setup shown in Fig. 12-1 to charge the batteries and power the instrument.
To charge the batteries more quickly, turn off the instrument.
