APPENDIX J:
Troubleshooting
Symptom
Possible Causes
Corrective Action
APM dead
Input power problem
Verify 24VAC or 15VDC is properly connected
to the APM power plug and firmly inserted into
APM, also verify polarity is correct.
APM displays
message “Internal
Communications
Failure”
Internal communications not
functioning properly
Call Local representative or Accutrol LLC at
(203)-445-9991 for a Return Authorization
number and return unit. There are no
serviceable parts inside of the APM.
Touch screen not
functioning properly
Calibration of the touch
screen is not correct
Re-calibrate the touch screen, see the
Calibrate Touch Screen section of this manual.
No audible horn
Not properly configured
See the Mute, Purge & Alarm Horn Settings
section of this manual for proper configuration.
Mute button does not
work
Not properly configured
See the Mute, Purge & Alarm Horn Settings
section of this manual for proper configuration.
“WARNING face
velocity below range”
message on APM
Not enough air flow through
the APM for accurate
readings
Check all tubing for pinched or kinked sections,
verify there is hood air
flow and it’s adequate to
satisfy the hood requirements. Make sure the
reference probe and or hood probe are not
blocked, verify they are connected properly to
their respected barbs. Note: the APM is
directional sensitive, so if there is a “reverse”
flow from the hood into the room, the APM will
also display this message.
“WARNING face
velocity above range”
message on APM
Too much air flow through the
APM for accurate readings
Make sure the reference probe and or hood
probe are not being influenced by fans or stray
air movements. Verify the hood air flow is
adequate for the hood requirements, the hood
may not be under stable pressure and/or
velocity control.
Analog Output voltage
does not reach the full
10Vdc potential.
Load resistance of device
connected to APM too small
to drive properly
Verify the input resistance of the device being
driven by the APM is at least 300,000 ohms. If
the input resistance is OK, verify the APM
settings are correct, see CONFIGURATION
SECTION of this manual. Note: when ordered,
every APM is factory calibrated from 0 to
10VDC under load.
“WARNING Field
Calibration Required
Prior to Manual
Adjustments” message
displayed
Calibration must be done first,
then adjustments can be
made
Perform a one point or two point calibration per
the Calibration section of this manual. Note:
that there are NO three point calibration
adjustments for the APM, only one or two point
adjustments are allowed depending on which
one is performed.
Displayed face
velocities are bouncy
Dynamic lab area can cause
the readings to jump.
Unaccounted for air infiltration
into the fume hood can affect
the monitor readings
Add some “smoothing” to the display per the
Configuration section of this manual. Verify
there are no stray air flows near the reference
probes, if there is, they must be resolved or
blocked off from the APM (check for high
velocity diffusers near hood). Change the
displayed resolution from 1FPM to 5FPM
(0.005MPS to 0.025MPS). Verify there is no
influence from interstitial spaces above the
hood affecting the hood performance.
