Standard Installation
Step 4: (Optional) Installing the External Reference Probe
Once a suitable location has been selected for the Room Reference Probe
, drill a 7/16” diameter (11mm)
hole for mounting probe. Referencing Appendix D, feed the supplied clear tubing connected to the probe,
through the drilled hole. Carefully push the tubing over the room reference port located on the rear of the
APM enclosure (refer to Appendix B). Press the room reference probe firmly to seat properly into
location. Note: various sealants can be used but are not required.
Step 5: Locating the Hood Probe
The hood side wall probe is best located on the same side of the fume hood as the APM to keep tubing
length to a minimum. Due to the wide variety of fume hood types and configurations available, there is no
single standard hood probe location that will work for all fume hoods manufactured. Typical hood probe
locations are approximately 4” to 10” (10.2cm to 25.4cm) back from the rear of the sash panel and
approximately 2” to 8” (5.1cm to 20.3cm) above the highest vertical opening of the sash. Refer to Figure
4 for a diagram of approximate locations.
If possible, contact the fume hood manufacturer for
optimum side wall probe location guidelines.

Step 6: Installing the Hood Probe

, drill a 7/16” diameter (11mm) hole in the
side wall of the fume hood.
Note:
Reference fume hood manufacturer recommendations for best
method for drilling hood sidewall. Referencing Appendix D, feed the supplied clear tubing through the
drilled hole and carefully push it over the sensor port located on the rear of the APM enclosure (refer to
Appendix B). Press the hood probe firmly to seat it properly into the side of the fume hood. Note: various
sealants can be used but are not required. Contact the fume hood manufacturer for acceptable sealant
types and information.
