Electrical Connections
The steps to correctly wire the APM are as follows; reference Appendix C for proper wiring techniques
and Appendix E for all electrical specifications of the APM.
Step 1: Power
For 24 VAC Control Power
– On the back of the APM enclosure, remove the 2-position green terminal
block labeled POWER INPUT. Loosen the two screws and insert power wires and tighten screws.
Caution: O
bserve proper polarity when wiring multiple APM’s to the same 24 VAC transformer.
Always connect the HOT 24 VAC power lead to the power (+) terminal, and the neutral lead to the
power (-) terminal. Damage to the APM may result if wired improperly and will void the warranty
.
For wall pluggable power cable
– plug the optional power cube into an acceptable 120 VAC power outlet.
Connect the power terminal block to the power input on the rear of the APM.
Step 2: Digital Inputs
Per job requirements, connect the device sending the unoccupied or external alarm dry contact closure
between Digital Input 1 or 2 and the common terminal. The digital inputs are software configurable to
handle either input. The digital inputs are actuated by a dry contact closure to common, maximum
contact resistance is 1000 ohms.
Step 3: Relay Outputs
The APM has two independent relay outputs available. Each relay is rated for a maximum of ½ A at
120VAC or 1A at 30Vdc. These relays are typically used to communicate fume hood Alarms to the
Building Management System and send a Purge command to the fume hood exhaust controller. Through
software configuration, each relay output can be set to operate as either normally closed or normally
open. With no power applied to the APM, Relay 1 fails to a normally open position, while Relay 2 fails to
a normally closed position.
Note: If the APM has been ordered from the factory with the optional Analog Output, Relay 1 is rated for
a maximum of 5A at 250VAC or 30VDC and fails normally open. Relay 2 remains the same as stated
above. Reference Appendix C for all APM specifications
.
Step 4: (Optional) Analog Output
The Analog Output is only available if ordered from the factory as an option.
The APM’s Analog Output is
software selectable (from 0 to 10Vdc in 0.1Vdc steps) and is proportional to the indicated face velocity
displayed. Connect the Analog Output positive terminal to the positive input terminal of the monitoring
device and connect the Analog Output the ground terminal to the negative terminal of the monitoring
device.
